Ingredients:
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 2 bunches of cilantro (cut off the stems!)
- 1 jalapeno (or spicy pepper of your choice)
- Cumin
- Cardamom
- Olive oil
- lemon juice (1 lemon)
- Salt & pepper to taste
Zhoug sauce is a spicy cilantro sauce traditionally from Yemen. It's perfect on falafel or your eggs in the morning, and it's so easy and quick to make!
Put all the ingredients in a food processor or blender. You can adjust the consistency of your sauce with the amount of olive oil you use. Be sure to season to taste. If you don’t want too much spice, remove the seeds from your jalapeno pepper. If you like spice, go ahead and put more in! Zhoug sauce is meant to be spicy! It tastes best if it chills in the fridge for an hour before eating.
I love dipping my falafel in Zhoug sauce! I like to mix it into some yogurt to mellow out the flavor a bit more. Zhoug sauce will last for up to 1 week when stored in an airtight container in the fridge. Check out our Recipe for Easy Falafel!
